Elegant Living: A Family Home with Personality

For this project, interior designers Cynthia de Graaf of Studio Co and Ewald Bosgoed of RoomForFire were commissioned to completely transform a family home. The result is a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics. What started with bold, colorful ideas evolved into a subtler palette with a focus on natural materials.

The transformation began on the ground floor, where a large extension with a skylight and folding doors was realized. The vision and design of this extension, including the skylight and folding doors, were developed by Ewald. The skylight seamlessly connects the existing structure with the new extension, allowing daylight to flood in. The fireplace is fully integrated into a custom-made interior wall by RoomForFire, which combines various functions. This wall, crafted from a single material, emphasizes the length of the space and also provides additional storage.

Cynthia played a key role in refining the interior and bringing all elements together into a cohesive and stylish whole. She meticulously perfected the material choices, such as the fabric for the Minotti sofa and the custom-designed rug by CC-Tapis. The curves of the ceiling and coves are echoed in the patterns of the rug, creating unity and a warm ambiance. Additionally, the home is fully equipped with advanced smart technologies, expertly integrated by Krijtenberg Sound & Vision.

The Arclinea kitchen is the heart of the home, designed with attention to both functionality and style. Thanks to the natural overhead light and the latest ceiling lighting by Occhio, this space exudes luxury. The staircase and landing are clad in wood by Vonder, ensuring a warm and elegant continuity. The doors seamlessly disappear into the walls, while rounded corners enhance the refined aesthetic.

On the top floor, the master bathroom is a true showpiece, featuring Onyx from Solid Nature as a central element. Here, Ewald emphasized organic forms, with all functionalities harmoniously integrated, including a generous skylight, a home spa, and a fully developed lighting plan. The master bedroom, accessible via the understated staircase, exudes the atmosphere of a luxury hotel suite. Custom-made wardrobes, high-quality materials, and a carefully chosen color palette create an elegant ensemble that aligns with the rest of the home. Cynthia also ensured that the youngest residents' dreams came true. With great attention to functionality, premium materials, and a personal touch, she designed children’s rooms that perfectly reflect their personalities and needs.

With more than 20 different parties involved, this project required intensive coordination and continuous alignment. Throughout the process, Cynthia was a constant presence. She attended all construction meetings and monitored progress and quality on-site. Her involvement enabled quick decision-making and ensured consistent execution of the design.

The choice of high-quality natural materials, such as wood, leather, and Onyx, plays a key role in the timeless character of this interior. The perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality makes this family home both a stylish and practical place to live.
